The General Insurance Code of Practice has been written in plain language so that it is easy to read and understand.
The Code has been designed to raise the customer service standards in the Australian insurance industry and protects the rights of policyholders. It’s the general insurance industry’s promise to be open fair and honest in the way it deals with all its customers.
What is a Code of Practice?
A Code of Practice sets out agreed standards and responsibilities for companies and organisations, or for whole industries.
How the Code was developed
The Code was developed in concert with consumers, business and insurers. It involved a three month public consultation to give people the opportunity to have their say on what they would like in the Code and included an independent review of all the submissions received.
